In 1943, Dr. Karou Ishikawa was helping a team of engineers to understand a problem that they were facing. In order to  graphically show them what he was suggesting he created the Ishikawa Fishbone Diagram. This webinar presents what the Fishbne diagram is and what it is not. You can’t solve problems unless you know what the root cause of that problem is and it is the Fishbone diagram that helps you find those root causes by eliminating the potential causes which do not readily resolve the issue at hand.

Michale George in this Lean Six Sigma Project Handbook explains that the purpose of the Diagram is to help teams push beyond symptoms to uncover potetnail root causes; to provide structure to cause identification effort; and to ensure that a balanced list of ideas have been generated during  brainstorming.
